This twist on a classic Croque Monsieur uses Granny Smith apple slices for a little tartness to lighten up this rich, French sandwich.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the flour and stir with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes.
